Warren Primary School 

Welcome to Warren Primary School which is part of the Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust.

We are extremely proud of our school and think that it is a very special place to learn. 

We have enthusiastic, talented and hardworking children who are supported in their learning by an outstanding staff team, dedicated governors and very supportive parents. All share a common aim for all of our children to be the best that they can be in our journey of building tomorrow today. 

  

Our Early Years provision provides a safe and happy environment which encourages all children to learn and play together to develop good friendships and relationships. 

The EYFS identifies 7 areas of learning and development. These are divided into 3 prime areas:

• communication and language
• physical development
• personal, social and emotional development.

And four specific areas:

• literacy
• mathematics
• understanding the world
• expressive arts and design.

Learning is structured around the 'characteristics of learning'. This means that children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking, which takes place both indoors and outside.

  

  

At Warren Primary our curriculum is based upon the skills that children need to develop to be successful life-long learners. From an early age we develop a love of reading through shared stories and a systematic approach to teaching synthetic phonics which transfers to a curriculum which has quality texts at its heart, ensuring that children are exposed to a range of classic and contemporary authors during their time with us. This approach allows children to develop as fluent readers and creative writers who have a good grasp of grammar.

As a school we are developing a mastery approach to the teaching of mathematics through our engagement with maths mastery specialists; from an early age we develop mathematical fluency and reasoning in our children using concrete, pictorial and abstract materials.

We believe that children’s educational experiences should be broad and balanced and should expose them to the best that has been thought, said and created. We recognise that children have strengths in different areas of the curriculum and we strive to give them a good grounding not only in English and maths but also in the humanities, arts and sciences, sport, language and music.

One of the unique features of our curriculum is the way in which we adapt it to the needs of our most vulnerable learners through our forest school provision and the use of our specialist resource base for deaf children. This allows children to receive an individualised curriculum offer and access unique learning experiences. We believe passionately in learning outside the classroom and utilise our extensive grounds, the local area and sites further afield to develop children’s understanding of how the world works; is connected together and how they fit into it.

Safeguarding is at the heart of all that we do as a school. We teach children how to keep themselves safe in the real world and online and how they can access help and support. We actively promote healthy lifestyles through our curriculum and our excellent before and after school offer.

Warren is a diverse school where British values are strongly promoted and children are encouraged to embrace differences. We work in partnership with local organisations such as The Royal Opera House, two teaching schools, the local children’s centre and other community organisations for the benefit of our children. We value our community and the harmonious relationships that exist within our school and do all that we can to promote co-operation, tolerance and understanding.

 

We are lucky enough to have our own Forest School at the back of our school field which is used by children in Early Years and Key Stage 1.

 

Our fully trained members of staff have built up an exceptional outdoor area for the children which supports play, exploration and supported risk taking.

Children are taught to use tools safely and have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities including playing in the mud kitchen, den building and campfire cooking. 

  

The Resource Base for the Deaf caters for the needs of hearing-impaired children within Thurrock. The resource provides an inclusive setting for up to 18 children ranging from 3 to 11 years.

Hearing impaired and deaf children work alongside their mainstream peers and are included in all areas of school life.

British Sign Language is a recognised language within our school and all children in the Deaf Base are taught sign language on a weekly basis by our qualified instructors. 

At Warren, we are fortunate to have such lovely and extensive grounds which the children are able to use for their learning. 

  

We often go on tips in the local area such as Sainsbury's, the Gorge, Davy Down and various activities at Lakeside Shopping Centre and retail park. Being so close to the train station also enables us to travel easily into London and the Thameside Theatre in Grays. 

  

Our children love opportunities to be active. Each class has PE lessons twice a week and, as a school, regularly participate in the Daily Mile. Children are able to play a range of sports including dodgeball, football and rugby. They also have dance, gymnastics and fitness sessions. 

We are fortunate enough to have our own sports coach. They have introduced a wider range of activities for our children to participate in including archery and kurling. Our sports coach leads many PE lessons, and runs before and after school school clubs.

Here at Warren, we provide children with access to technology which really enthuses and engages them.

Each pupil experiences a range of devices during computing lessons and they are able to develop their understanding of coding using a variety of resources including Bee-bots, Micro:bits and robots.

We have also provided every child with their own Microsoft 365 account; this enables them to have access to the Microsoft Office suite online which they are able to use at home. 

Our marvellous PTFA volunteers run lots of events such as fêtes, quiz nights, discos, tuck shop and gift sales to raise money for extra equipment.

 

  

With the money that they have raised, they have purchased a variety of items such as new interactive screens for every classroom, a new audio and visual system for our school hall and outdoor gym equipment. 

The PFTA also arranged and paid for murals designed by children at Warren to be painted by a professional graffiti artist.

  

 

They also facilitate a pre-loved uniform shop to help make good use of good condition uniform, saving parents and carers money and doing our bit for the planet!

Our school meals and catering team are managed by local farmers, Ashlyns. They supply us with fresh, local ingredients. 

They have helped to improve our school dinners ensuring that well-balanced, nutritious meals are provided every day. 

Warren Weavers is our breakfast and after school club where we provide an extended school day for the children in a safe, warm and stimulating environment.

The children can play, learn and develop freely and are cared for, encouraged and supported by our qualified, experienced and friendly staff.
