Year 3
Year 3 pupils are Rock stars and created a rap for the various Metamorphic, Igneous and Sedimentary rocks that they are studying. They are becoming archaeologists and are studying the composition of rocks, soils and fossils. This week, they skillfully classified rocks according to their shape, durability, texture and uses through erosion investigations.
Year 3 pupils have been historian this week and learning about the diverse commemorations of remembrance day around the world. They eagerly watched videos and engaged in discussions with their peers about the various celebrations, noting the similarities and differences. They were surprised to see many countries commemorating it as many thought that it was only in England and some of their views are mentioned.
Elyas – France celebrates it just like us because they lay wreaths at the cenotaph.
Zanai – India has a Marigold flower included for their soldiers and it says ‘India Remembers ‘.
Fabion – The song that was played – ‘the Last Post’ is very emotional.
David – I did not know that so many countries commemorated the day and called it their own names.
Gabby-A lot of people all over the world died in the war.
The great Warren bake off in Year 3
DT baking lesson: What can I bake using British ingredients that can be found all year round? Cupcakes of course! All pupils excitedly followed the simple recipe instructions like baking pro’s and were able to apply their mathematical skills of accurately weighing dry ingredients, measuring in grams and ml and ensuring that the oven was turned on to 180 degrees. There were squeals of delight as some pupils cracked an egg for the first time, others were nervous that they might not pour the right amount of vanilla essence but were relieved once the mixture started to look and smell edible. Icing and decorating the cupcake was the best part and it tasted as yummy as it looked.
Year 3 pupils were scientists this week and conducted a science investigation based on the human skeleton. Does the length of your femur affect the distance of your standing long jump? Some pupils predicted that a longer femur gave you the advantage and you then jumped further while others were unsure if there was a correlation between the two. Excitement filled the air as they put their hypothesis into action. They used a tape measure and accurately measured the length of the strongest and longest bone in cm. Conclusion: You’ll have to ask a Year 3 pupil!
The Year 3 students have adapted well to the new schedule of returning to school after the Summer break and have exhibited a positive attitude toward acquiring new skills in every lesson. Our term's focus is having a healthy body and mind, and students have demonstrated this in their science, art, reading, writing and PE work. They also challenged themselves and their partners in the Fitness lesson to raise their heart rates and increase their level of fitness. What an amazing start to the Year!
