Tech She Can
On Thursday, our Year 5 and 6 children were lucky enough to have the opportunity to take part in our first TechSheCan event.
The company behind the event are striving for women to be equal members in creating and developing the new technology businesses, products, and services that shape our world, ensuring technology works for all. As an I-Belong school, we recognise the importance of engaging not just girls, but all our students in STEM subjects and took this exciting opportunity straight away.
The event focused on how technology has evolved over the generations, especially when it comes to living in space. The children learnt all about the importance of safely delivering food to the space station and how this process has changed from being food in a tube during the very first spacewalk, to the possibility of 3D printing food in micro-gravity. The children also learnt about how the astronauts go to the toilet in space and how they could play a pivotal role in the advancement of space travel through their future career choices.
Here's what our children had to say:
“It was cool! We learnt about what astronauts eat and about how they can exercise in space. I learnt how they can wash their hair on the spaceship and the water doesn’t spill!” Fred 5F
“It was nice because I found it interesting. I learnt all about space toilets. I would love to be an astronaut because I want to be able to feel what micro-gravity feels like and I want to be able to see the stars and Earth from space.” Alexandra 6L
