Children's Mental Health Week
My Voice Matters
Starting our focus week in an Assembly was Integrative counsellor Andrea Binks who introduced the fun bear belly breathing technique, finding activities that makes your heart sing, the super powers of kindness, the shake it off glitter dance and the ‘mood bears’.
Our amazing school council pupils shared their views and spoke about experiences of situations that made them unhappy and the effect that it had on their emotions and personality. They then confidently spoke about the different activities, creative outlets and sports that allowed them to calm down and recharge themselves again.
Another fantastic experience was when Dance teacher and mindfulness first aider Shannon Clout from Lucere School presented dance workshops for Years 4, 5 and 6. Shannon used various exercises to take pupils through feelings and emotions and witnessed the uplifting effect of dance on their moods.
Jenny Kent from Jen’s Travel boutique shared her experiences traveling the world as a travel agent. She was impressed with the discussions, questions and insights that Year 6 pupils had as they recognised the positive effect of a day trip, sightseeing or a holiday on their mental health.
