Our School Values, British Values and Vision Statement

Our values and vision are at the core of everything we do.

They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.

Statement of Intent

Warren Primary School is committed to working in partnership with children, parents, carers and the wider community to ensure success for all pupils in all areas of their lives. We are dedicated to offering all children the opportunity to develop, succeed and achieve in a safe, happy and inclusive environment – regardless of their individual ability, gender, beliefs, ethnic heritage or language. We recognise the importance of supporting all individuals in identifying and developing their strengths and helping them to find ways to cope positively with their weaknesses.

We provide opportunities for everyone every day to maximise their intellectual, physical, social and spiritual potential. We strive to ensure that every individual has a positive self-image. We believe that there are two major prerequisites for successful teaching and learning. Firstly, a secure, well organised, caring environment and secondly, mutual respect for each other, acknowledging the right to be different. This respect also encompasses caring for our building, our grounds, the community and wider environment, in which we live and work. In preparing our young people for their future lives we recognise the necessity to teach key literacy and numeracy skills along with the thinking, learning and technological skills which will enable them to succeed and become true lifelong learners.

We expect everyone to strive to attain the highest possible educational and behavioural standards at all times and aim to enrich the learning and lives of children by providing the opportunities to grow spiritually, physically, emotionally and socially through a broad, balanced and creatively delivered curriculum, where everyone has the freedom to initiate and take responsibility for their own learning.

As a partner in the Osborne Co-operative Academy Trust, we share the balanced set of six co-operative values which are embedded throughout the school by both staff and children.

We are committed to demonstrating these values and principles in everything we do:

Self-Help

We use our own efforts and resources to achieve things without relying on others.

Solidarity

We support each other and work together to achieve a goal.

Democracy

We understand that everyone should be treated equally and has an equal voice and right to contribute.

Equality

We ensure that everyone is treated fairly, equally and with respect.

Equity

We demonstrate attitudes and behaviours which are fair and unbiased.

Self-responsibility

We understand that we are answerable and accountable for our actions.

British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.

Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

At Warren Primary School, our school curriculum promotes British Values of:

•    Democracy
•    The rule of law
•    Liberty
•    Mutual respect
•    Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

These values link very well to our co-operative values, illustrated in the following table:

British Value Co-operative Value Links to School
Democracy Democracy Pupil voice - the School Council; each class has elected representatives. The children are involved in the development of the curriculum and changes within the school and the school grounds.
The rule of law Self-responsibility and Self-help All classes have rules, which they help to set, and all staff have high expectations of attitudes towards learning and behaviour. There are clear systems in place for rewards and consequences.
Individual liberty Equality and Equity

Children have freedom of choice in some of their lessons. Everyone is encouraged to make choices, knowing they are in a safe and secure environment. Children are encouraged to express their views, ideas and beliefs during PSHE, RE and assemblies

Mutual respect Solidarity and Equality

All staff show respect and model respect. Children are expected to show respect to all. We all work together to help one another. PSHE, RE and assemblies encourage children to empathise and understand different cultures, beliefs, celebrations and festivals. We enjoy learning about other faiths and members of different faiths are welcome in our school.
